Hiding under giant leaves…destined for the lunch table!
Hello everyone,
How excited I am to invite you to join me for the very first kitchen gardening day of the year: inTHE KITCHEN GARDEN LATE AUTUMN/EARLY WINTER on SATURDAY 28 MAY.
What a topsy turvy start to the gardening year we’ve had…with oh so much rain…the like of which we’ve never seen here before. It caused many veg to be out of kilter during their late summer phase and my rotation timing to go completely up the spout. But…with a few sunny days and a stolen week day here and there, I’m back on track!
The winter structures are in (wigwams, broad bean boxes and exclusion baskets made of prunings). The bulk of this season’s crop rotation is complete and the autumn/winter growing season is underway. There are still some summer veg lingering, with good autumn produce to eat, so 28 May promises to be an ideal moment to absorb all the kitchen garden fundamentals: from design and the kitchen garden aesthetic, through structures, seed (collecting and germination), plant protection, veg family groups, crop rotation, companion planting, soil, tonics…and compost. We’ll taste test our way around the garden and we’ll eat well too – a late seasonal organic lunch with continued discussion will complete the day!
You can find all the details and booking form here. We’ll kick off at 10am with morning tea and end at around 3.30 / 4.00 rain, hail or shine. Whether a kitchen gardening novice or already underway, these days are a fabulous opportunity to glean real insight to a way of life anchored and sustained by cultivating produce. They are gentle if very full. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
How I will look forward to seeing you here!
Very best wishes as always,
Mickey
ps it’s just dawned on me that our Herbal Garden Workshop with Anthia on 21 May is election day! All the more reason to join us – for a day of calm indulgence! We’ll certainly all need a well-boosted immune system for whatever lies ahead…details and booking form here. Of course, it would also be the most ideal mother’s day present – and what Mum learns spills over to the entire family…as we all know only too well!
