Over the weekend I collected the first beans! I always get SO excited about the ‘first’ of any fruit, vegetable or flower (you may have noticed!).
It’s rare we have Borlotti beans so early, but I’ve elected to eat the baby ones in hope that regular harvesting will encourage the bushes to grow stronger and produce more, (so that hopefully we get a good crop overall and enough to harvest for drying later in the season). I’m hoping this first Purple King is the beginning of a bumper crop – they’re a good fine bean and I can’t wait til the tunnel is dripping with them! Baby Sun is a small round ‘bush bean’ that I had some success with last year (I find many beans are quite temperamental).
And so two of us had 2&1/2 beans each on Saturday evening! I need more fast….
