Better late than never I guess….I’d intended to have good stock of Janelle McCulloch’s terrific book ‘The Modern Kitchen Garden’ in time for our Open Garden Weekend…..it was a nice idea. Anyway, they have JUST arrived, so if anyone would like me to post one, do let me know. I met Janelle when she came here to take photos of our Kitchen Garden for the book and feel a bit embarrassed to have joined some of the wonderful gardens she included across the world. I’m also a devoted reader of her brilliant blog (when I have time – if I don’t, I save them up for a spare moment???!!!) Janelle McCulloch Library of Design.
The Open Garden Weekend was huge fun – we had enormous crowds (for us!), and I lost track of how many cakes we baked – the day before, Saturday night and Sunday morning – we just couldn’t keep up! A HUGE THANK YOU to Squidge, visiting from the UK – her first stay with us and she spent the entire time baking, washing up or on duty in the Barn – she’s an absolute star! Also a HUGE thank you to ALL our helpers on both days – you know who you are (I promise to try and persuade more of you next time to spread the load!).
And last but certainly not least, once again thank you to Emily for marking out a fantastic Labyrinth….I wish it could be there always, though perhaps it’s all the more special for its ephemeral quality. I urge everyone to support the one she’s raising funds to build in Centennial Park (thank you to all our weekend visitors – you have made a valuable contribution towards this Labyrinth). I walked our one at dusk on Sunday evening, a light mist had settled, though the sky was blue after the rain & streaked pink after the sun had set; the rusty iron hayshed roof aglow in the fading evening light – it was pure magic….
