‘Tis the week of the broad bean! At last….I’ve been so looking forward to this moment and while the peas are still coming in thick ‘n fast, this week I have to admit my excitement for the first precious broad beans has eclipsed even my passion for peas! Still small enough to not need worry about double-shelling and of the brightest, freshest green, they really need no cooking at all and I’ve coaxed quite a few from their soft, downy case to eat on the spot in the garden.
Oh and collecting their long green pods at dusk stirs the scent from flowers that climb each stalk, releasing a delicious scent into the air. An altogether satisfactory experience!
