Now this may be a rather uninspiring image for a Monday morning, but it serves to remind us that it’s an ideal time of year to make the most of our comfrey leaves, which are in an abundant phase of growth.  I took the opportunity the weekend before last, to strip my plants of their leaves and fill one of my big double sinks.

The leaves have been steeping in rainwater for over a week, so any minute now, I’ll have the most dreadful stench permeating the drying green.  Knowing the end result will be a potent comfrey-tea to use as a tonic for next year’s fruiting veg will make the temporary stink worthwhile!  In the intervening week we’ve received 10 inches of rain…so the plants are off again, producing their beautiful large, slightly felty leaves.

A few more days and I’ll have enough to collect for a second brew.  A perfect weekend job to look forward to….rain, hail or shine…
