This year, the District Exhibits at the Royal Easter Show have taken on a whole new meaning….not only representing the finest and most diverse produce from their respective districts, but expressing the impact of war long ago, while life went on by necessity, back home on the land.
As always, the attention to detail (let alone the strong messages of care, family, community, loss, stoicism) is exquisite. Conveying messages using the bounty of the earth, nurtured by our wonderful farmers, is surely an art form in a category all of its own.
Look closely and you will discover each pebble is a seed or pulse, each flat surface painstakingly covered in fleece or grain, each vignette contributing to the whole a masterful combination of the gnarled and muted or plump and perky.
I so admire the creativity, capability and resourcefulness of the small teams of dedicated people who bring us these magnificent exhibits each year. I doubt I’d be able to place one potato or pumpkin, onion or apple to such effect (without it all rolling off onto the floor!). Judging their efforts gives cause for reflection in itself….when each display is exquisite in its own right.
I hope you make it along to the Show this year…..
It’s a time-honoured institution for every Sydney-sider. Support our farmers & the bush….they work harder than you imagine, to ensure we have food on our plates….and it’s not an easy row to hoe…. #districtexhibits #eastershow
