Event name: SPRING in the KITCHEN GARDEN with MICKEY, SATURDAY 09 SEPTEMBER
In the kitchen garden we’ll explore the design principles that underpin the layout and aesthetic; comparing the two different growing methods employed in the kitchen garden here. From there, we’ll look at all the relevant tasks of the moment: from care and nurture of veg through their growing season, to staking, support structures, seed (collecting & germination), companion planting, soil and…everyone’s favourites: compost and food…as we taste our way around the garden!
This is a time of enormous activity…of bountiful winter-grown, spring produce alongside crop rotation…one of the very best times to learn all the kitchen garden has to teach us, about growing.
Suitable for absolute newcomers and old hands alike. Everyone is welcome.
Timing:
Arrive at 10am for seasonal cake and a refreshing tisane of garden herbs while everyone gathers at the Dairy…then after a brief introduction we’ll be off to the garden for a completely immersive morning. Please wear sensible shoes, layers (the temperature can swing wildly at this time of year!) and bring a hat – perhaps a brollie too as we’ll go ahead rain, hail or shine! We’ll return to the Dairy at 1.00’ish for a little picnic-style lunch to stave off the hunger pangs! You can choose some seeds to sow in your own garden and you will be welcome to potter in the Barn and linger longer in the garden where I’ll be happy to continue the conversation.
Cost $175.00 per person 10am – 2.30/3.00pm
