Event name: TEXTILE TALES with LA GROSSE TOILE
a PRESENTATION & CONVERSATION on TEXTILES with JOHANNA MACNAUGHTAN, Friday 10 March 2023
About Johanna Macnaughtan www.lagrossetoile.com @lagrossetoile
Johanna is a textile-obsessed Australian writer and antique dealer based in the Loire Valley region of France, from where she runs her online business La Grosse Toile.
She began collecting vintage and antique clothing and textiles in her early teens and since then, her extended stays, travels and conversations with people in markets in Turkey, Oman, Senegal and Mali; as well as France, have all contributed to a ridiculously large and growing collection of mostly handmade textiles, and an eclectic knowledge of the things she finds.
Johannna regularly writes about her finds and about the associated history and politics of textiles and clothing, their sustainability and impact, and also spends much time learning and writing about indigo. She is visiting Australia for the first time in six years.
Event description:
The day will begin at 11am with a glass of elderflower cordial on arrival at The Hayshed. We’ll ask you to take your seats in the Dairy by 11.30, when Johanna will give her presentation, sharing her fascinating textile tales (mostly slides but she has some real pieces stashed away in her luggage for show & tell too!). There will be time for Q&A before a seasonal, garden inspired lunch, where the conversation is very likely to continue.
There will of course, as always, be time to potter in the Barn and linger longer in the garden….
Cost $165.00 per person
