THE NEIGHBOURLY GARDEN with COLLEEN SOUTHWELL, The Garden Curator, Sunday 06 October
About: www.thegardencurator.com.au @thegardencurator
Colleen Southwell, AKA The Garden Curator, is an artist, horticulturist and garden designer based near Orange in the Central West of NSW. She is an advocate of “slow gardening”, encouraging mindful enjoyment and acknowledgement of the garden as a process not an outcome, and gardening as a partnership not a conquest. She shares her love for home-made and heart-filled gardens through her own country garden, and is the founder and host of The Storytelling Garden, a snail-mail and online workshop for budding gardeners wishing to design and grow a home garden with heart, story and beauty.
The Neighbourly Garden, a Workshop:
When we shift our focus from seeing a garden as a piece of real estate, to a living community of diverse characters with different needs and purposes, we begin to see our role as garden maker differently – we are the curators of home.
A community is everchanging, and shaped by the landscape to which it belongs; it’s common ground, a familiar and comfortable place that provides a framework for our day to day, nurturing the lives of those within.
The Neighbourly Garden is a workshop and conversation that will explore the idea of growing a community in our own backyards – a place filled with life and personality, welcoming both us and the lives we share it with. We’ll consider creative ways to make a garden that embraces and encourages biodiversity, and explore the character and contributions of plants, the many roles they play and the relationships between them. Join us at 10am when we’ll begin this inspiring day with morning tea in the loggia, then take a seat in the Dairy where Colleen will take you on a glorious journey via presentation and conversation, into the gentle world she encourages others to take with their approach to garden making. We’ll break at 1.00 for a simple garden-inspired, seasonal lunch in the loggia, and then Colleen will share some of the intricacies of her art practice, before we wander the garden together to note some of the ideas from Colleen’s morning presentation. With a little something sweet to end the day as you collect your beautiful bundle of treasures that Colleen will bring for each of you…by her hand and from her garden, we expect to finish around 3.00pm. As always, you will be welcome to linger longer.
Cost $295.00 per person 10 am – 3.00’ish pm
