Finally, this last weekend saw me pull the last of the late summer and autumn veg out of the garden….well, except for one large tomato I’m hoping may, (by some miracle), get just enough of a blush up to bring inside. For weeks I’ve been enjoying the vision of this last Listada di Gandia aubergine dangling from its stem above a froth of purple basil.
And these last capsicums, Lebanese aubergines and tomatoes are bound for the oven. They’re all colours and tastes we won’t see again for some time to come (though I am still bringing in a weekly colander of baby self-seeded tomatoes from the back of the asparagus bed – long may they continue!).
