This unexpected friend sprouted just outside the kitchen a couple of months ago and I took to weeding around him, on the off-chance that he might become handsome! I didn’t plant him and wonder if he arrived in the loads of horse poo I shovelled into the bed in January? However he arrived, I’m so glad he did. He’s been a cheery companion for several weeks. I’ve just been hoping the local gang of sulphur crested cockatoos don’t make a dawn or dusk raid, but presently they seem to be preoccupied with the cones on all our pencil pines. My friend is past his best now, but I hope to save his seed and I might try to re-create his cheery demeanour next year!
