Peek-a-boo! All wrapped up, leeping the white cabbage moth at bay…
Hello everyone,
Just a gentle reminder…and some excitement in the planning…see below!
An enthusiastic little clutch of peeps have booked to join me here next week (so after the election!) for inTHE KITCHEN GARDEN LATE AUTUMN/EARLY WINTER on SATURDAY 28 MAY and I hope that maybe I can tempt you to come along too as the garden is bustling!
Now the date is near, I can see just how it will unfurl…beginning, I think, with a little lesson in the preparation and cooking of Jerusalem artichokes. Because that’s the way kitchen gardening days roll here…(whilst all the information you expect to be included is); they flow in an organic way…in tune with the season, which means each time is different; spontaneous and fun. And we always talk about food…afterall, it’s why we grow! This time, whilst I’ve got my eye on some spectacular seeds to share, each participant will also leave with a jumble of Jerusalem artichokes….enough to bake or to make that beautiful velvet-textured soup from the recipe in The House & Garden at Glenmore. Have you tried it? I was thrilled to hear from a serial-kitchen-gardening participant earlier this week that she’s grown a huge mound of Jerusalem artichokes from the ONE she pocketed here last year. She made the soup for the first time last weekend and her family want more, more, more!
I’m sometimes asked to explain the kitchen gardening days here…yes we cover all you need to know but also…they introduce you to a kitchen gardening way of life… It’s a rather beautiful way to live…as I know the many who have participated over the years can attest.
So if you’re toying with the idea of beginning your own kitchen garden; growing even a little to add to your table and dreaming of a kitchen gardening way of life, please join me on Saturday 28th. All the details and the booking form are here.
And the excitement????
I seem increasingly to be asked just when we’re next going to open the garden! The last was our 30 year celebration, towards the end of the drought years in 2019…when fires broke out the following week. And since then of course, we’ve all endured covid…and flooding rains. But we’re still here…after pretty much battening down the hatches! So I’m listening and am in the midst of hatching a plan…in fact several plans! At this stage, I’ll just say watch this space for what I anticipate will amount to ‘a SERIES OF GARDEN EVENTS’. They won’t be on the scale of the last many, but intimate…offering you various opportunities to visit and enjoy the garden (without attending a full day workshop). So…here are some dates to contemplate and perhaps to save (as numbers at each will be limited):
EARLY-SPRING MORNING TEA & GARDEN STROLL SUNDAY 04 SEPTEMBER
MID-SPRING GARDEN & SEASONAL LUNCH, FRIDAY 28 OCTOBER
LATE SPRING AFTERNOON TEA & TWILIGHT GARDEN STROLL, SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER
and maybe…
a MID-WINTER SEASONAL LUNCH, SUNDAY 17 JULY (for those of us not jetting off to exotic climes!)
Each will offer their own unique atmosphere…celebrating the gentle shift in seasons, and I’ll be working on each of them as soon as inTHE KITCHEN GARDEN with me…on SATURDAY 28 MAY, is packed away and I’ve taken a deep, deep breath!
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
How I will look forward to seeing you here!
Very best wishes as always,
Mickey
