The inaugural Food Writers’ Festival was held at The Mint on Saturday, and I thought I’d go along out of pure curiosity, (not that I consider myself to be a food writer – heaven help us;  nor do I consider myself to be a ‘foodie’, much as I love my food and produce….an interloper might be a better description!).  But the opportunity to hear some real stories from those we read so much about was, as I hoped it may be, insightful and inspiring.

It was such a beautifully organised event and Barbara Sweeney who’s concept it was, is an absolute dynamo!  If you have an obsession with cook books, I encourage you to join her newsletter:  cookbookclub.co

It really was a treat, to listen to the likes of Belinda Jeffery on the Zen of Baking, Michele Cranston on ‘Light’, John Newton, Gay Bilson, Alex Herbert, Dee Nolan…..the list went on and on.  Keep a look out for the festival again next year – I have NO doubt that this first event will become a popular date in everyone’s diary, and it will appeal to all of you who admit to an addiction with food, words, recipes, produce, oh, and books!
