I could swear these thrusting aloe spears were NOT there yesterday!  Maybe I just didn’t happen to walk past…but there are TWO of them!  I always think they look like gigantic asparagus.  They are truly splendid…

To be honest, I hadn’t actually meant for the aloes to be there – the blue/grey agave Americana (left foreground), I did plant on purpose.  But I dug the aloes (with permission of course!) from Brownlow Hill, to put into some terracotta pots. Alas, there were too many, and so I ‘heeled’ them in to the ground (as a temporary measure) while wondering what to do with the spares.  Needless to say, I dithered for rather too long, and so there they shall remain forevermore!  The effect is wonderful – especially when you stand on the verandah and look towards the hills beyond….
