Invitation to a Sunday FEAST…at Glenmore House

A village feast awaits – a dazzling, gastronomic adventure through Lebanon with Sivine and Karima of Sunday Kitchen

Hello everyone,

How excited I am to invite you to join us for a Lebanese brunch in the garden on SUNDAY 03 MARCH: a morning of tasting and storytelling as we Feast on a Journey through Lebanon from village, to city to souk… with KARIMA and SIVINE of SUNDAY KITCHEN.

The idea for such a day has been simmering away in our combined imaginations ever since this passionate, knowledgeable, generous-beyond-words mother/daughter cooking duo first set foot at Glenmore one fine day last year….when they, we, found ourselves tripping over each others’ words in our excitement from the very minute we met! As we walked through the garden, Karima turned to me and said “all this reminds me of the villages of Lebanon, women baking fresh zaatar flatbread on a SAJ (hot dome oven)…imagine if we were to host a long, lazy Sunday brunch?” Since then, a series of images (with lovely Luisa Brimble) have been captured here for Sunday Kitchen’s upcoming first book (not all of them here, but enough for me to have had the opportunity to indulge in morsels of beautiful food, prepared by Karima and Sivine’s hands…plates that come laden with love, flavour, stories and smiles). Time…spent in the company of Sunday Kitchen, is like a hearfelt, nourishing embrace. I cannot wait for the book’s release…but in the meantime…I cannot wait for them to share such a feast with you!

We encourage you to arrive by 10.45…to take your place at one of the long tables in the Dairy. Karima explains that this timing is traditional for a substantial Sunday feast…one eaten in a long sitting, beginning with pastries and village cheeses, progressing slowly through a multitude of traditional dishes found in the crowded souks of Tripoli and Beirut. That this season coincides with the best of late summer/early autumn produce, will ensure a bountiful array! Whilst I imagine conversation at the tables will be pretty animated…Karima and Sivine will have stories to accompany each dish as it’s passed around…telling us of the ingredients, their heritage, their place in the geography and the journey. As Karima suggests….it will be food that eats well together! Truly…just writing this is making me very, very hungry indeed!

As a general rule, Karima and Sivine teach their hugely popular cooking classes on a Sunday morning at an exceptional, light filled, commercial kitchen in Rosebery.  This long brunch is an excuse for them to cook their food and share their stories in a landscape setting…and the opportunity for you to  immerse, indulge and enjoy…without need for you to wield a knife!

I’ll be encouraging you to take a good walk around the garden post feast! You will be very welcome to linger longer…perhaps we might even take a little group for a walk in the creek…let’s see how everyone feels and what the weather brings!

You can find all the details here and if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Gather your besties, your partners…such days are best shared so you can savour the delights and reflect down the track…but as you all know, we’re always more than happy to see individual arrivals here too…goodness I’ve heard of some unexpected, treasured new friendships made here in the last year! What better way to do that than over food…?

With very best wishes as always,

Mickey
