You guessed it! It’s the last day of the school holidays (I’ve been trying to do this for the last fortnight!), but as long as it happens IN the school holidays it’s OK! There must always be someone to give the Christmas Cake a magic final stir, and scrape the best bits from the bowl that didn’t make it to the cake tin!
I always used to do this with my grandparents (but in those days it was the August school hols), so we truly do run late these days – whose idea was it to have 4 school terms? Anyway, two months in the cupboard should still give us a scrumptious cake.
And so now the cake’s in the oven, and the kitchen smells like….summer, Christmas, holidays……heaven!
