What a joyous occasion today, when at last Emily Simpson’s vision for a Labyrinth for the people of Sydney, came to fruition. The Centennial Park Labyrinth (who’s pattern involves the same sacred geometry as that of the magnificent C13th Labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral) was officially declared open by the NSW Governor, Dame Marie Bashir.
There followed straight after, a very, very special vision indeed, when the ‘Blessing from the Wisdom Keepers’ involved representatives from the many and varied religious and cultural groups across our community, who’ walked’ the Labyrinth….preparing it with their thoughts, prayers & blessings for all to follow. From Aboriginal Elder to Pilgrim, Monsignor to Rabbi, Imam, Reverend, Monk, Minister….they made a magnificent collective vision this glorious spring day, clad in robes from saffron to white, black, or Indigenous motif, walking together, yet each following their own path.
I hope you will have the opportunity to visit the Labyrinth and to walk the path too. It is there now, thanks to the vision, passion and commitment of one, who collected many others in her wake……to be discovered by one and all….
(For those who have been following these posts for awhile….you may recall the vagaries of the story of the Labyrinth at Glenmore….it continues to appear after good rain, and recede with dry times, but you can revisit the story here!).
