Craig Andrade, Australian Native Botanical Perfumer, Candlemaker & Sensory Merchant is founder of The Raconteur; an artisinal luxury fragrance brand based in Sydney. Founded in 2017, The Raconteur specialises in natural botanical fragrances, using Australian native plant extracts. His newly opened atelier in Paddington, The Embassy, is the world’s first perfumery dedicated to Australia’s native botanicals.

Craig studied perfumery at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in France, and has also specialised in natural perfumery, training in San Fracisco under the guidance of the world’s leading natural perfumer, Mandy Aftel.

Workshop description:

Join us at 10am for morning tea in the Loggia, where Craig will begin to weave a perfumed tale that continues as we set off on a garden wander. As we ramble, we will halt at intervals to press and sniff…an exercise in attuning our olfactory response to the season and plants in the garden. On returning to the Dairy, Craig will consolidate the information you’ve absorbed, alongside a potted history of perfumery; the techniques employed in extracting essential oils from plants, key olfactive families in fragrances and elements of how to structure a fragrance between  top, middle and  base notes, alongside how to structure and blend a fragrance.

A garden-inspired lunch will punctuate the day; then after you will spend the afternoon absorbed in the art of candle making. During the Masterclass, Craig will explain all things wax, wicks, temperature, vessel and candle performance as he guides you through making your very own scented candle under his watchful eye. All materials will be included. Prepare for a day of pure scentsory delight…
