A single Mutabilis rose bathed in early evening sunlight in the Dairy post Sofra…
Hello everyone,
What a whirl the post-winter season has been so far, the garden revealing daily treasure as the sequence of seasonal events, workshops and distillations come and go…alongside a multitude of spring gardening tasks that must each be tackled in turn. There’s ne’er a dull moment, that’s for sure!
I thought I’d pop into your inbox with a quick update, as the time is drawing closer…first to my MID-SPRING in the KITCHEN GARDEN WORKSHOP on SUNDAY 10 NOVEMBER which will be a beauty. Whether you’re new to the idea of growing your own veg or would simply like a boost in the inspiration department, this is a perfect opportunity to seize the moment. I’ve begun my seasonal rotation and the day will be packed with information alongside absolute immersion in the kitchen garden which is a true representation of this moment in time – the very best way to learn. My kitchen gardening days are gentle and honest: we approach the day via open conversation and I share everything I can possibly think of to set you on your very own growing journey. I’ll have seed to share, we’ll enjoy a simple seasonal lunch and you’ll leave ready to tackle your own patch and get to grips with a garden to plate, kitchen gardening way of life. All the details and booking form are here.
Next, those who are on the FIELD OF FLOWERS WORKSHOP list are all in the loop with possible timings for these much anticipated days. I’ve had a little setback with a night-visiting intruder who is quite taken with fresh-tip growth on the less thorny row of David Austin roses! But I’m doing my darndest to put whoever they are off (we think it’s a wallaby!) and am hopeful I’ll be able to run some of these delightful days in the coming weeks. If you’d like to join the list for these spontaneous flower-filled, immersive workshops…do please get in touch and I’ll fill you in with likely possible days. You can read more about them and contact me via that page here.
And thirdly, a reminder for SAILING…a YEAR on EL ORO with RICHARD & MATILDA DUMAS on FRIDAY 29 NOVEMBER which we know is going to feel like a celebration of the holiday season to come. Here’s a link to the previous newsletter that’s now in the archive (in case you missed it!) and also a link to the booking form here. I’m sure you may think this a curious one for here…but not really – just like Richard, I can sometimes be found sitting here dreaming of the sea!
There’s much more detailed news of all the goings on here, over on the Substack page called at Home with Mickey Robertson which (since embarking on that platform earlier this year) has become a quite lengthy weekly post!). So if you’re looking for seasonal recipes and an expanded update on the garden (from what I’m picking and eating to the glorious perfumes filling the air and a lot more besides), then you might like to take a sneak-peak if you’re not already receiving the prompt in your inbox. I uploaded the Seville Orange Ice Cream recipe in last week’s post – by popular demand from visitors!
How I’ll hope to see you at one of the workshops in the weeks ahead or at our Sailing event which will wrap the event year. But in the meantime, watch out for the release of this season’s Orange Blossom Botanical Water – coming soon!
With warm spring wishes
Mickey
ps yes it’s true…due to unforeseen circumstances, India Flint sadly had to postpone her proposed two-day workshop in November but we very much hope to pick up the pieces in the autumn and I’ll let you know when we decide the date in the new year.
