For the last Sunday in April, this wasn’t a bad haul…and almost all by chance! Except for three large Rouge de Marmande tomatoes which I did in fact plant on purpose (and this late fruit is proving to be the best of the season), the rest is by pure chance! I wrote a post about self-seeding tomatoes a couple of months ago – it really does pay to leave these determined plants to their own devices (even if they are inclined to be messy), and to my great delight, one of the toms turned out to be Black Cherry, which I thought I’d lost – yay!
As for the potatoes – I unearthed enough baby news for this coming Friday’s lunch, while digging the bed to plant the rest of the garlic – truly, if you’ve ever grown potatoes, the future will be like digging for treasure! I had potatoes in this particular bed three years ago, but it often reveals a handful of surprises…
