So……what to do on a very cold, verywet Saturday? Get propagating!!! I’ve been trying to get around to it for weeks, so it seemed the perfect opportunity to rug up & get on with the job.
As the climate has ricocheted between hot & dry to very wet these last couple of years, we’ve lost a fair few plants. So I’m very aware that the time has come to produce replacements to fill the gaps; and as we hurtle towards winter, time is of the essence.
I enjoy the process of propagating and am inclined to feel rather virtuous on preparing a good batch of cuttings – (with visions of beautiful, healthy plants to hand in a few months time). So I collected my material and headed for the shelter of a wide tin roof; and while rain sheeted down, I filled tubes, snipped cuttings & scribbled names on paddlepop sticks.
Now they must be nurtured: not to hot, not too cold, not too dry and definitely not too wet! It’s all too easy to kill them with kindness. (I KNOW…believe me!). Watch this space – hopefully I’ll have good news to report in a few months time!
