Peony Poppy Detail…
Hello everyone,
How I have been longing to release our Poppy Illustration Workshop here with Rose Colbeck…slated all year for a pure poppy celebration on Saturday 23 October. Planned with precision and anticipation, I sowed so many more poppy seeds than usual and left all the self-sown ones to flourish too. I virtually had my magnifying glass out for months awaiting germination…all in the hope of plucking them for close inspection…for participants on the day to study their exquisite detail from bud to petal, stamen to seed pod. Alas…unfortunately, Rose and I realise that this year, it just can’t be. With her LGA likely to be in lockdown for longer, she can’t leave Sydney…and I fear it may well be the same for many hopeful participants.
And so…our delightful day of drawing and painting must be postponed ’til the same time next year. Once again I will save the seed in November and sow in April, in anticipation of a SATURDAY 22 OCTOBER 2022 reprise (doesn’t that look like a lucky number?). By then, with any luck we will be without masks and hopefully, at ease with a new sense of normality. Boy I do hope so.
I’ll be in touch again soon with other proposed workshop updates. While looking at the daily news one might assume it’s all about to be kind of ‘normal’; reading the fine print on the other side of the equation sadly reveals cause for concern; and I’ll need to make a decision in the coming week as to whether or not we can indeed proceed with any of the proposed spring events. Unlike a restaurant, where you might have a ‘bubble’ of family or friends attending (who might sit closer than otherwise possible), the vast majority of participants at workshops and events here are individuals…meaning that although we have the nominal square meterage to accommodate the numbers, actual spacing for seating suggests we may not be able to have the mininum number to make an event viable. (For most events we really do need twelve participants minimum, and usually open them to only twelve maximum as well, unless for a presentation and lunch, which really is looking to be out of the question this year).
It really is with a heavy heart that I must now turn to looking at each individual event. If we really can’t proceed as hoped and planned, I’ll try to dream up some other kind of reason for you to visit that doesn’t require a ‘seating’ plan! Please watch this space...
I do know that eventually once again, I will be able to invite you back here to learn, dream, eat, and be inspired….
With very best wishes to all,
Mickey
