So….to the reason for my lack of posts last week: a sneaky quick trip to Melbourne to listen to 3 inspiring speakers at the Theatre of Ideas, during Melbourne’s Food & Wine Festival.
Hosted by the dynamic Jill Dupleix; I was intrigued at the notion of listening to ‘out-there’ chef & organiser of extraordinary, yet completely down-to-earth (literally) food events, Michael Stadtlander from Ontario; equally earthed & compelling Swedish chef Magnus Nilsson AND the no-nonsense Aussie Gourmet Farmer Matthew Evans. It was an inspiring afternoon of topics fuelled by a shared passion for care of and respect for the land, for beasts, and especially for farmers, and a timely reminder of the food choices we all make for ourselves. And some knock-out images accompanied the talks – especially of Michael’s events, where ‘paddock-to-plate’ can’t get any closer!
Oh – and the image????!!!! Well, I didn’t click the speakers on stage, so this is what kept me manic the week before – assisting eldest daughter with an installation of flying strelitzia nicolai and potatoes (amongst other things) – probably best not to ask, but an extra pair of hands were required and so……you know!
