I love this very simple Greek orange poppy for its feathery foliage & bright flower head, nodding on a tall stem in the breeze.  It’s usually in flower when nothing else is, and so stands out against varying textures and other greens in the garden.  It’s very close to the kitchen and always makes me smile.
I bought one very small plant years ago on a whim, at an obscure nursery somewhere on the North Shore – a plant hunting day (aren’t they the best? I rarely seem to get the opportunity for them these days…, but then, nor do I have much space left!).  It has happily set seed ever since, just close to its feet, so it isn’t any kind of threat.  And those were the days when orange was SO out of fashion! Which makes me smile even more!!
