POETRY OF THE POPPY, an ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with Rose Colbeck, Saturday 22 October 2022

About Rose Colbeck instagram: @rosecolbeck

Artist Rose Colbeck is a Sydney based artist who shares her love of the natural world in every aspect of her work. With pencils and paints she communicates the beauty she sees and the guidance she feels as she explores the world around her. Rose has been a working artist and independent teacher for over 20 years, creatively guiding many children through their school years and inspiring adults of all skill levels to rediscover their creative spark and produce beautiful artwork.

Workshop description:

“The plan is to create drawings from our garden specimens, from bud to flower to seed pod. You will be gifted a handmade, illustrated envelope containing blank postcards on which to create small drawings; and some beautiful lengths of Arches paper for ‘tall’ specimens which can then be folded into concertina books. We will be drawing with pencil and fine liners and watercolour will be available to tint the completed drawings if you so choose”. Rose Colbeck

The day will begin at 10am with morning tea, an introduction to Rose and the visual feast of Peony Poppies in the garden.

The date is timed for when the poppies should be at their peak and at all stages of their exquisite journey, from bud to full flower, to petal drop, and the revelation of a new seed pod. (That Mickey collects hundreds of these pods each year ensures there will be plenty of the dried form on hand too). We will pick specimens at their various stages and then, under Rose’s guidance and watchful eye…you will begin your morning’s work.

There will be a spring-garden-inspired lunch of course, from where the poppies in the ‘borders’ will fill your view as they dance on their stems. A delightful afternoon immersed in the land of the poppy will then follow, as you complete your works. All materials will be provided on the day; and have no fear, beginners are welcome.

*COVID SAFE: We ask that you not attend if you feel unwell (should that be the unfortunate case, we ask you to please advise your situation as soon as possible so we can attempt to fill your space).

Cost $365.00 per person
