While pumpkins and tomatoes romp away, the roses took a little break after their first showy, summer flush.  Where some roses are always prolific and dependable, like Iceberg (still looks great underplanted with lavender in the right situation I think!); some are worth waiting for, with little bursts of flowers throughout the season.  I don’t have many David Austin roses, but this one is Chaucer.  I do love its clear pink, delicate petals, which open to a quite fragile, multi-petalled bloom.

And I enjoy them all the more because they’re not there all the time!
