The pumpkin patch, with it’s winding path through the long grass, is coming into its own. Pumpkins need space, and every year I curse where I’ve planted them for taking over my paths and streaking out over the lawn. I know one should ‘nip them in the bud’, once they’ve set fruit, but I can’t help myself as they romp away with gay abandon….all blotchy leaves ruffling in the breeze.
So this year, we made an enclosure, well, kind of, in the old horse paddock. Right now, it’s my favourite thing in the whole garden. I’m not sure if the vision will improve, or fall apart, or if those wretched pests will swoop down and attack my lovely sunflower, but just right now...it’s perfect. And I’m hoping we get lots of pumpkins too!
