They’re nothing short of prolific! Although I’ve only had real success with one variety this year, I have more than enough to feed an army….with Purple King. The key with beans is to pick them small – best at the time they’ve JUST plumped up from tiny, immature, skinny things…..just a fraction more & they’ll be perfect.
When, or should I say IF the sun should shine, you need to pick twice a day. ‘Bean Stress’ is what I’ve jokingly called it in years gone by – trying to pick before the school run and rushing back from the city to pick again before they explode into huge, tough stringy things!!
I might even have to toss out a few in this photo, but I do love them wrapped in this fine French linen tea towel with the red check, from Susie at The Bay Tree (it’s the only place you can get them!) www.thebaytree.com.au
