As a rule, we don’t make much of a fuss over Sunday lunch (to be honest, we’re usually in the garden!).  But as we found ourselves ‘south of the border’, with both Mother’s Day and a Wedding Anniversary to celebrate, we thought we’d give ourselves a treat.  It just so happened, that photographer Nicholas Watt was clicking away here in the garden last week for an upcoming issue of Belle magazine….and he was raving about his mate Dan Hunter’s new restaurant, Brae, a pleasant drive through attractive landscape, beyond the western side of Geelong.  And they had a spare table for two!

Nick assured us we were in for a real treat, (despite our protestations that neither of us are big on multi-course, degustation menus!).  But we had to admit….as golden leaves played in the autumn light outside, and plates of tiny offerings landed on our white-cloth’d table….that we were thoroughly enjoying the experience!  Each plate was a delightful presentation of colour, texture and taste….each bud and tiny leaf thoughtfully placed for maximum impact.  And we left neither hungry nor ridiculously stuffed!

So if you should similarly find yourself with the opportunity to take a little excursion to the west of Melbourne (how lovely it would have been to extend the trip for a drive along the Great Ocean Road, not that far away) –  we have no hesitation in suggesting you include Brae on your wish list!
