OK….so Brian (help in the garden once a week), spent some time in his youth working in the Riverland of South Australia, where sultanas and raisins dry on racks, under cover. Simple. So with some old wire from the shed (love wire, can never have enough); he knocked up a couple of rough trays. We placed the trays with the excess grape bunches on the Hayshed table and covered them with my wire tunnel, in hope of protecting them from rodent attack! So they’re raised, have circulating air, they’re under cover so protected from rain, the midday sun and vermin. Can we prevent ant attack? (always my greatest problem!). But there’s nothing I can do about humidity. At least in the Hayshed they are well placed for the easterly breeze we’re so fortunate to enjoy throughout the summer months. Perhaps it will act as a natural drying element?
It’s an interesting experiment and as we have grape bunches to spare….there’s nothing to lose! Where would we be without Brian’s youthful adventures?! I’ll keep you posted….
