It seems only yesterday that the ‘guild’ side of the Kitchen Garden closely resembled a wild flower meadow (above). But fast forward almost two months and the majority of these plants have expired, I’ve collected their seed and carried out a huge overhaul.
While I tackled the ‘traditional’ beds first and they’re mostly planted for the season, it’s taken a bit longer to tackle this side. I don’t mind – it causes me to stagger my planting, so that we don’t get all our harvest at once. And this season I’ve had a REAL clear out – I haven’t had quite such a blank canvas for a few years. Consequently, it’s been a hard slog, but a real joy to barrow in serious loads of our beautiful compost (while keeping the very last tomatoes & aubergines going ’til they collapse; some veg, like chard & kale carry through the season and rocket is ready to self sow).
And so now I’m ready to plant…..I’m just itching to get stuck in! Maybe later today if I’m very good and clear the desk jobs early????!!!!
