How thrilling are the first purple asparagus to push through the earth?  And they’re just in time to join the multitude of peas.  This year we have LOTS of shelling peas – I’m obsessed.  They’re sweetest straight from the pod of course, but I think I might actually be building up to a batch of spring pea soup!

Lilac, lilac everywhere…..breathe deeply and you will be dizzy with the scent and sight of all things lilac! Including the flowers on the shrub itself.  This is plain old common lilac and I look forward to the short-lived vision each year, of lilac standing tall in front of the heavily weathered slabs of the stables.  I planted it as tube stock years ago and its taken so long to form into a loose hedge.  I love to bring cut stems inside, but someone told me its bad luck….is it?  Must I resist????  If so I must plunge my nose in each time I walk past!  But it always looks so pretty on my dressing table….

Then there are kohl rabi, wisteria and lavender…..but I might save those images for tomorrow!
