Irrepressible winter beauty…
Hello everyone,
I’m in the mood to release a series of new events for the remainder of the year (we’ve past the winter solstice – woohoo!) and to kick them off, the first is for music lovers! I’ve hatched a plan for an idyllic little winter adventure…a glorious day out…and invite you to join me in the garden for a lovely WINTER CELEBRATION on SUNDAY 17 JULY for BACH, BROTH and a WINTERSWEET TREAT!
Here’s the plan!
We’ll begin with a wandering RECITAL of those well renowned, moving and thoroughly compelling BACH SUITES for unaccompanied CELLO. Sydney-based cellist DARSHA KUMAR is excited to play for us and will begin with Prelude from Suite No.1 in G Major in the Hayshed; from where we will trail behind him (pied- piper style) making our way to various spots in the garden to pause, as Darsha settles to play once again. I’ve no doubt we will be captivated by each resonant and breathtaking note that emanates from his strings and carries on the air; as he progresses through Suite excerpts of Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuetts and Gigue, with views alternately of garden pockets, field, paddock, sparkling water and the landscape beyond.
On arrival, to make sure you’re well hydrated for the gentle morning ahead; you will be greeted with a herbal garden tisane, and at one of our designated spots (perhaps when we reach the Persimmon Lawn) we will enjoy a delicious fennel, lemon & pea shot, concocted from the garden by MICHELLE SCHOEPS who will be busy preparing our LOVE & BONES LUNCH. I think a short, sharp shot of bright seasonal green will be just the thing to pique our appetite as the selection of Bach movements draws to a final crescendo!
At 1.00 pm we’ll head to THE DAIRY…for nourishing bowls of steaming Golden Broth & Winter Dumplings made and ladled with love by Michelle, aka THE BROTH LADY; alongside bread, cheese…and…to complete the day, a generous slither of Citron Tart made by ANGELA PALERMO. I’ll take her a basket of Lisbon Lemons from our tree the week before and believe me…(as any of our Italian Cooking Workshop participants will concur) her Citron Tarts are simply to die for!
The planning has my fingers and toes tingling in anticipation! You will need to rug up (although temps at that time of year have often seen us peeling off the layers to a bare minimum…one never can tell!). But I encourage you to bring a rug to wrap in or sit on as we pause to listen to the recital (or perhaps bring a fold-up stool although there are plenty of fences and tree trunks to lean against!). My heart is set on it being one of those glorious clear, blue, sunny winter days that begin with an early morning frost (but should the worst happen don’t worry…we’ll enjoy the recital in front of the fire instead) so we’ll go ahead rain, hail or shine!
All details and the booking form are here. How I hope you will join me for a day filled with music, food and winter joy!
Very best wishes as always,
Mickey
