How thrilling, that this out-of-season Hippeastrum lily should send up a strong & sturdy flower stem, to greet the first days of winter!
And all because of a wonderful sense of generosity. You see I only have this particular beauty, because one of our earliest Kitchen Gardening participants gave it to me. It wasn’t in flower then, it was just a dormant bulb. But I knew it was absolutely precious to Katie. And so I carefully potted and nurtured it, worried for about four years that it didn’t look happy, until at last, a year ago, it sent up its first flower stem. Phew!!! This year it has two off-set bulbs, and so I think we’re thriving…
