New year’s day in the field…
Hello everyone,
How I hope this finds you well…somewhat rested and looking forward (even if with some trepidation) to whatever this new year holds in store. Perhaps I’ve been a bit slow getting things off the mark…but on the other hand (as you can see from the image above) there was little rest to be had here as the old year rolled into the new! I honestly couldn’t have predicted, just a year ago, that harvesting lavender during the first week of January would become a new Glenmore tradition. I hadn’t yet planted the rows in the field this time last year and, now they’re there…there’s no turning back! Clearly this is how early January days will unfold in the years to come and my oh my…what sheer summer bliss! Thank goodness Clemmie was at home though, because this is a two-(wo)man task (at the very least!) and fortunately just the kind we both love! But I’ll write more about that elsewhere (a new webpage is on my agenda!). I guess it almost goes without saying that…the very first batch of pure Lavender Water will soon be ready for release!
Of course I’ve also been contemplating the wretched pandemic situation and how best to proceed here with events for 2022. You all know that much of last year was spent postponing and rescheduling event after event…but oh how each one was worth the frustration of it all! So during the course of this month I will begin to add tempting events to the calendar…some re-runs because it would be tragic not to repeat them, and others new.
That said though, I would also like to encourage you to look at the reworked ‘PRIVATE / at HOME WITH MICKEY’ days. You will see I’ve made some alterations…and additions! How these days provide flexibility, when a group of like-minded friends, family or colleagues choose to have their very own day here at Glenmore! Lockdown months aside, we enjoyed some truly memorable ones here last year…filled with activity, beauty, bounty and laughter. So have a think…perhaps you’d like to join me for a day ‘made just for you’ and a friend or two, or three or more! A newly minted offering I’ve just popped in there is: a day filled with all the fun and joy of Distillation! Full details coming very soon!
The very first ‘open’ event for the year that I hope will be completely covid-proof, is one we had to postpone last year. It will be a lovely opportunity for you to visit the garden and enjoy a very informal afternoon to meet JADE MILES author of FUTURESTEADING on SATURDAY 05 MARCH. I’ll send the details next week but Jade has just confirmed she’ll definitely be coming up from Victoria with copies of her fabulous book on board! Please save the date! Numbers will be limited and the event will begin at 2pm.
In the meantime, I just want to say…how much I look forward to seeing you here during the course of 2022! Mask up, keep well, eat well, and garden!
With very best wishes as always,
Mickey
