COOK, FEAST & POETRY with CADE McCONNELL at Glenmore House

Cook, poet, maker…Cade McConnell

Hello everyone,

I’m delighted to introduce CADE McCONNELL: cook, poet, maker, author…and to invite you to join us for a COOKING WORKSHOP, FEAST and POETRY on SUNDAY 14 APRIL.

I first came across Cade about 4 years ago and was inspired then by his reverence for nature, for Country, for food, ingredients, the manner in which he cooks, the vessels in which he cooks…each individual component valued…considered.

I’d invited Cade to visit Glenmore before that grim time that stifled everyone’s freedom, but it seems Cade put that time to good use…curbing the exotic travels from whence he learned so much of traditional ways…and gathering his learnings and mindful practice together in an exquisite book: PLANTS, CLAY, FIRE.

Living on Bundjalung Country just north of Byron Bay, Cade places a hefty focus on sourcing local produce from organic and regenerative farmers for his day-to-day plant-based cooking practice; and is also founder of Quiet Earth, supporting traditional artisan makers of clay and stone cookware from around the world.

The workshop will be a gentle one, with respect for the natural elements that bring good food to the table and all of us together. I know some of you will be thinking this is not the kind of food Mickey usually prepares…and you’re right! Where I connect with Cade is on the respect for each and every morsel I grow and prepare…that’s what growing (as opposed to buying) brings meI may not be quite at one with the methods of Cade’s cooking, but how I would like to be…hence inviting him here.

The dishes Cade prepares are South Indian / Sri Lankan inspired (temple food) and whilst delicious, I also know it to be whole and nourishing…good for our digestive system and as autumn settles, it’s the kind of food I’d like to bring more of to our diet. And I’m more than happy to learn from someone in tune and half my age!

All the details and booking form are here and the number of places available for this particular workshop really are very limited. Do please get in touch if you have any questions at all.

To bring what I anticipate will be a glorious autumn day to a close (hopefully one when glorious shafts of afternoon sunlight stream through the eucalypts that bound our paddocks and make the whole land shimmer) we’ll take a short trek to the circle of rocks, where Cade will share a few verses to send everyone quietly, but enthusiastically, on their way.

Cade will also have copies of his book available and be happy to inscribe them with a line or two!

How we’ll look forward to seeing you…or someone you think this day will truly inspire…here.

With very best wishes as always,

Mickey
