31 July – SPRING ITALIAN COOKING with ANGELA PALERMO

Angela’s Lemon Curd Tart…(image Laura Reid)

Hello everyone,

It seems to me that spring’s in the wings…the citrus trees are dripping with fruit and this tantalising image of ANGELA PALERMO’S Lemond Curd Tart is tempting my tastebuds!

Truly…she once posted an image of the same tart on instagram when I was having a rare slow moment at a garden fair…I’d missed lunch and could only dream of her dropping in a slice of this to keep me going with a cuppa!  Alas, not that day, but when she next made a visit to Glenmore, she very sweetly brought me one!  Lemon Curd Tart, or Tarte au Citron is the one sweet temptation I find difficult to resist. It’s become something of a birthday treat over the years and to be honest, I’ve tried to avoid learning how to make it, (because I know what will happen!). But, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to know how. (I also happen to know someone else in this household, who doesn’t have quite the same level of discipline as me, is equally enamoured with them, and perhaps shouldn’t have to wait ’til my birthday each year for this sweet treat?!).

And Angela’s? It’s sublime!  On SUNDAY 15 SEPTEMBER, along with a spring garden inspired menu, we will make it with Lisbon lemons from the tree here, so it will be extra special…and you might even get to take a slice home!

SPRING ITALIAN COOKING with ANGELA PALERMO of THE VILLAGE COOKS on SUNDAY 15 SEPTEMBER will be a celebration of the produce growing here in the kitchen garden.  It’s a time when the brassicas begin to bolt, citrus fruit are in abundance and the fennel swells to bursting.  There’s a lovely sense of anticipation in the air; and to use the best of Angela’s baking and pasta making skills, we’re thinking to include ‘pici’ in this class:  not too fiddly, no machine necessary, so to share the art of hand-rolling pasta you really can make at home with a minimum of fuss.  Combined with all the goodness from the garden, it sounds to me like a lovely way to while away a spring Sunday.

We will pick, we will cook….and we will eat!

Angela and I very much hope you will join us.  For all the details and the booking form, please click here.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

In the meantime, I wish you sweet lemon curd dreams!

Very best wishes

Mickey

ps You could make a complete foodie weekend of it and attend Barbara Sweeney’s Food and Words event at the Mint in Sydney on Saturday 14th.  Always insightful…where food, agriculture, the environment and prose collide….
